Dynamic and experienced individuals to join our Board of Trustees
Do you have a passion for peace, education or the environment? Experience in ICT, HR or Finance? The Brighton Peace and Environment Centre is recruiting dynamic individuals to join its Board of Trustees. Prior trusteeship is not necessary, only a keen interest in contributing to the charity’s work.
About you
We are looking for individuals with a keen interest or passion for global education, peace and the environment to join the board of directors. Prior experience as a trustee is not necessary.
About us
Established in 1982, the Brighton Peace and Environment Centre is a dynamic local charity in Brighton and Hove with over thirty years’ experience of developing and delivering formal and informal education programmes to inspire action. Changing contexts mean that we constantly strive to be innovative in our programmes and delivery. Current projects include the EU-funded ‘Quality or Quantity?’ project, ‘Cafés in Schools’ project recently funded by the Earnest Cook Trust and delivered with the Brighton & Hove Food Partnership, and a city-wide behaviour change project in Brighton & Hove delivered with Brighton and Hove 10:10.
In addition to funded projects we provide resources for teachers and teacher trainers, working closely with the School of Education at the University of Brighton. We also have large pool of dynamic and dedicated volunteers who contribute significantly to fundraising and to our organisation in general.
To Apply
Join the Refill Revolution!
Volunteers needed to launch our newest campaign!
We have the beginnings of a lovely, skilled, fun team of Refill Brighton pioneers and we would love to have more motivated, enthusiastic people to help join us in reducing plastic pollution one bottle at a time. We believe we can really make a difference here in Brighton. We hope you will find a role that fits with you and will join us in this important campaign.
Refill Ambassadors for Business
Twice a year in October and April we plan to have a series of Action Days to sign up businesses as new Refill Stations. They take place once or twice a week for about 3 hours. They involve going out with a fun team of people to talk to businesses about Refill Brighton and helping them become part of the scheme by putting a sticker in their window and uploading their details onto the app.
Helpful skills - confident talking to people (flirty types love doing this), taking photos, organised (we need to keep good track of what we have done), uploading details to the app and our systems. We ask people to commit to coming out at least three times during the action month.
Refill Ambassadors for public outreach
We are looking for creative fun ideas to get the Refill message and behaviour change out to the general public in 2018. We plan to take a stall and other more creative interactive ideas to events in the city, as well as onto the streets, beach and train station. Flash mobs, dances, arty stuff, films, think up something fun and together we can make it happen.
Comms Team
Helping with media enquiries, press releases, updating the website, organising events etc. Design work - DTP, flyers, posters, informatics etc. At the moment we need event organisers to help with the launch party.
Photographers
We need good photographers to take pictures of Refill Stations and at events and general pictures to use for communications work and Instagram.
Social Media
Our social media team is currently fairly full though we could do with some more help with Instagram and coordinating our social media with BPEC.
Student Coordinator
We would love to have Student Refill Brighton groups in all the Universities and colleges in Brighton. Are you a student? Could you start one? Or would you be interested in supporting student groups? There is so much potential to get over the Refill message in a fun positive way. Your ideas are welcome.
Partnerships
Building a strong working relationship with a variety of other organisations in the city, from commercial to Universities, Arts, Local government, other charities and organisations. A person who could help organise a Brighton Plastics Reduction Coalition with other charities would be helpful at the moment.
Fundraising Events
A team of event organisers needed. Fun and creative ways to raise awareness and money to continue Refills work. Could you organise a music night as a fun fundraiser? Set up a crowdfunding page? Collect raffle prizes?
Film
Create short pieces of film for social media.
Website
