We are a small organisation working to make big changes locally and depend on our volunteers to keep our organisation running. Our staff and volunteers are from all over the world and we feel they are a big part of what make our diverse organisation so special. We couldn’t do it without you guys!

Our Staff
Becca works as an administrator and Bookkeeper
I've been involved in education, environmental and anti-war issues for many years, volunteering for other organisations with similar interests to BPEC and working as a playworker and teacher accross Europe. I first made contact with BPEC through the Glastonbury Festival bus service many years ago. I bought my ticket from the Centre when it was in the lanes. I had a lovely ride up and met some wonderful people who volunteered with BPEC at the festival, I was working with Oxfam that year. Years later a friend mentioned that BPEC were looking for volunteers and I came on board. Now I work part time for the organisation keeping the books, helping to support the volunteers and generally welcome people to the Centre.

Our Volunteers
Les works as our volunteer Volunteer Coordinator
As Volunteer Coordinator, I see my role as being to encourage and support new volunteers into the varied roles that they have taken on. I love being able to help people find out more about the issues that BPEC cares about, and seeing people blossom as they gain new skills and experience. I provide regular supervision sessions for people, and make links between different parts of the organisation's work. I originally joined BPEC several years ago, working on our innovative Climate Connections project with the irresistible, inestimable Paolo! I subsequently took on a three year spell as trustee, helping to steer BPEC through a reduction in its government support for global learning work with schools. Through BPEC, I've also trained as a Carbon Conversations facilitator, running small groups - helping participants to commit to lifestyle changes that decrease their carbon footprints - across Brighton & Hove. I like that BPEC is a community of like-minded individuals, who want to take action for a better city, and a better world. Come and volunteer with us!

Lydia works on organising our Events
My interest in environment and education all started from an psychology elective that I took at the University of Sussex. In that elective I learned the importance of environment and how education can serve as a long term solution to environmental problems. Growing up in Hong Kong, a city characterised by efficiency and over-consumption, I rarely had the time or opportunity to invest in pro-environmental actions. The psychology elective re-lit my passion towards the environment and urged me to give back by volunteering with BPEC, an organisation that clearly understands the importance of environment and education. My interest in events management also makes me a happily volunteer serving in the events area in BPEC.

Holly works with our Memberships and Member organisations
I joined BPEC in 2015. I am a Geography student at the University of Sussex and thinking of ways to get more people to engage with, and help to protect the environment has become quite a passion of mine. As memberships officer here at BPEC I have the perfect opportunity to try to expand our charity's reach and, in the process, raise awareness of some very important environmental and justice issues. I am thoroughly enjoying my time here at BPEC and I hope to continue to volunteer with them after I graduate, to help build and support such an important charity.

Nathan works as our Glastonbury Festival manager
I've been volunteering with BPEC since 1999, starting as a Glastonbury Festival volunteer in the lock ups and then getting involved in running that project from 2002. Since 2003 I've been volunteering on a regular basis, mostly involved with Glastonbury but also with the library and membership. In 2014 the Glastonbury group raised £10,000 for BPEC, the most we've raised ever! I started volunteering at BPEC because I wanted to give something back and I was passionate about environmental issues. Since working here I have started a course called Managing Voluntary and Community Organisations and used BPEC as a case study. I also wanted to find an eco-girlfriend, and I'm pleased to say that I met my now fiancée Jasmine at BPEC and she is the best ethical girlfriend (soon to be mother!) in the world! I've learned a great deal about managing fundraising projects, managing people and about global concerns and I look forward to being involved with BPEC for many years to come.

Jenny is currently working on our Grandparents to stop Climate change project
I've been associated with BPEC for many years and have volunteered on projects including the Climate Connections blog, the BPEC library and social media. Recently I have been researching involvement in a Grandparents Action Group.
Kelly works as our web-editor and writes our blogs
Originally from Germany, I moved to Brighton in 2013 to start my degree in International Relations and Sociology at Sussex University. Since then I have grown to love Brighton and see it as my home. I have always had an interest in environmental issues, especially in relation to food and agriculture. Because of this and to develop some new skills I joined BPEC in 2015 as a web editor. I look after the website, edit and publish articles on it. I love volunteering with a small organisation like BPEC because it combines global with local issues.
Steve works as our web support person
I come from a design background, starting out as a graphic designer and then moving into 3D, creating assets for animation, education and interactive applications. This led me to start developing and designing for browsers. As well as BPEC, I work with local internet radio station 'Radio 4a' and software companies in the Croydon area. In my spare time I like looking into ancient history, technology, current affairs and art.
Helena works on campaigning and legal loopholes
I started volunteering with BPEC in 2016. I studied Law with American Studies at Sussex University, and got the chance to study abroad in California, which is where my passion for environmental causes really flourished. I am looking to start a career in environmental law; while at BPEC I have been researching into what legal protections are offered currently, and how we might use them to our advantage. I am looking forward to continuing my work with BPEC, and getting involved in future campaigns.
