The Fringe Is here

The Komedia Group are the one of the latest businesses to join the Refill Scheme! They are one of a number of responsible businesses who are actively supporting the reduction of single use plastic and helping turn the tide on plastic pollution. They also have two exciting upcoming shows as part of Brighton Fringe - Me & My Bee and Baba Brinkman: Climate Chaos - they are both shows that tackle the big issue of global warming but in a more intimate and unique manner. BPEC and Refill will be writing reviews on both shows so what this space…

Volunteer with Brighton & Hove Refill

REFILLBH 10cm 1
Join the Refill Revolution!
The Refill movement has come to Brighton and is working in collaboration with BPEC!
We need 10-15 volunteer Refill Ambassadors to let local businesses know about it and encourage them to join up.
We have two dates available for enthusiastic ambassadors to join our team:

Sunday 22nd October 2017 2.30-5.30pm    Facebook event

&

Friday 27th October 2.30-5.30pm     Facebook event

We will be going out in teams to tell local cafes, restaurants and other businesses how they can help prevent plastic pollution one bottle at a time, and promote a culture of health and hydration amongst their staff and customers. If they are happy to be part of Refill Brighton, we will put a sticker in their window and upload their details to the refill app.

Brighton is a great community and businesses have already been approaching us wanting to be part of the scheme so we expect to get a warm welcome.

We will meet at Brighton Peace and Environment centre for a briefing  then we will go out in teams around the city. We will gather back at BPEC at afterwards to share our results and some food and laughs.

We’re looking for reliable and friendly people who ideally would be able to volunteer some time to the Refill Brighton campaign over the coming months.

If you would like to get involved with Refill Brighton as a Refill Ambassador, please fill out this form:
Volunteer here!

Refill Brighton is being delivered by a team of passionate volunteers in partnership with Brighton Peace & Environment Centre. Refill is a nationwide campaign founded in 2015 in Bristol by City to Sea CIC. Similar schemes are now running across the country. More info: http://refill.org.uk/

Beyond the Bills: A Values-Based approach to creating Sustainable organisational change

A presentation by Jane Glenzinska of Brighton Peace and Environment Centre with Chris Bland of Grace Eyre Foundation followed by networking over a free buffet lunch.

Brighton Peace and Environment Centre has recently completed a city-wide sustainable behaviour change project which was commissioned by Brighton and Hove City Council to create practical interventions in support of their Sustainability Action Plan.

The business strand of the project focused on a sustainability training programme with 10 employees of the Grace Eyre Foundation, one of Brighton’s oldest charities with 250 members of staff.

The design, delivery and assessment of this work was done in collaboration with The Values and Sustainability Research Group from University of Brighton with a focus on measuring values-based indicators of behaviour change.

We combined this values-based approach with the award winning Carbon Conversations behaviour change initiative for an innovative and highly successful approach to creating organisational change.

Breathe in Brighton

Air pollution is a big issue in the UK, particularly for those of us living in cities. Poor air quality has been found to reduce life expectancy by up to 8 months, costing the NHS up to £20 billion a year. Air pollutions levels, specifically Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), have continued to exceed EU standards for a number of roads in Brighton.

Air pollution even at low levels exacerbates the symptoms of underlying illnesses such as respiratory disease and asthma and levels of air pollution in Brighton are unacceptable.

That's why BPEC is working with Argyll Environmental to increase awareness and tackle this important issue. Breathe in Brighton is our campaign, aimed at promoting sustainable forms of transport that reduce pollution. We want to encourage local people to use public transport and to cycle as much as they can. Engaging with the Council we want to make cycling safer in Brighton & Hove.

We held an event! - find out more

At the Brighthelm Centre, North Rd, Brighton BN1 1YD. Speakers included Keith Taylor MEP and representatives from the Council, Client Earth and the University of Sussex.
